There's not much to say; this isn't a high-concept strip. Basically, these guys are navigating temporary life, living in a suburban world in which they commute to work, eat at Pizza Hut, and surf the Internet . . . the stuff we do everyday. Except one is a camel and the other never takes off his space helmet.
Making Of
Astronaut and Camel originally came about around 1994. I had these two plastic figures in my house, you know, like Army men . . . molded plastic toys, all one color. I don't know how they ended up in the same place at the same time, but I thought the pairing of these two seemed funny. Many years later, I did some experimenting with a comic strip where the characters were little toy figures. I think that's when the humor of this strip began to form.
